And so, that brings us to our first damage report! Let’s talk about what combat looks for us right now. On round 1, we’d cast Spirit Shroud on ourselves with a bonus action, then go make two weapon attacks with our Great Sword or Maul. Our attacks would do 2d6+1d8+6 (3 from charisma, 3 from GWM) each. On subsequent rounds we’ll continue whacking, but if we crit or kill an enemy, we get to make a bonus action attack with our weapon thanks to Great Weapon Master, though it would be without the proficiency bonus damage from Great Weapon Master. /eyeroll /grunt Ok, how often is that going to happen? Of course it’s impossible to be totally accurate here but I’m thinking 25% feels like a nice conservative number. We hit decently hard and crit almost 10% of the time. Why do we crit almost 10% of the time? Because, yeah, I’m going to assume we have advantage. I mean, between our Hill Giant ability to knock prone, our Clairvoyant Combatant ability, Eldritch Smite that can knock prone, and the fact that our allies will likely have ways to help make this happen, I just think that we’re more likely to have advantage on our turn than not. Is it sustainable? For one combat encounter per short rest at least, yeah, I think so. Will we always have advantage 100% of the time every time? Of course not, but for the sake of making the math easier, I’ll assume we do. Feel free to adjust things down slightly if you need to. But maybe you tune them back up if you think 25% is too low an estimate on the Bonus Action attack from Great Weapon Master. We’re making educated guesses and estimates here, right? Ok, speaking of Eldritch Smite, as I often do, let’s go ahead and assume that we’ll use that on a crit, which will add 8d8 of damage to those instances.

Speaking of damage, at level 9 it’s time for our next damage report! Since last check we’ve had some nice damage bumps – an extra d8 per hit from spirit shroud, an extra d6 once per turn from life drinker, a bump to our charisma mod and proficiency bonus, for GWM, and even some greater potential for advantage thanks to our invisible familiar’s help. Oh and we could be Eldritch Smiting for 12d8 now if we crit. Not to mention some nice control and utility and defensive options.
